for Texas Heat
Keep your double-coated dog comfortable through San Antonio summers — without the damage that comes from shaving. We thin, not shave, to protect coat integrity while reducing heat load.
Book Coat Thinning
The right way to help your dog handle Texas summers
San Antonio summers regularly hit 100°F+. For double-coated breeds — Huskies, Samoyeds, German Shepherds, Border Collies — people often want to shave them to help them cool off. That's the wrong approach.
A double coat works in both directions — it insulates against heat as well as cold. Shaving removes the guard hairs that protect your dog's skin from UV rays and can cause permanent coat damage. What actually helps is targeted coat thinning: reducing the density of the undercoat using thinning shears, not clippers.
We assess each dog's coat individually and recommend the right treatment. If de-shedding is enough, we'll tell you. If thinning is warranted, we do it safely and with care.
